Metal 3D Printing (SLM)

Metal 3D printed (SLM) parts as-built on the build plate

Metal 3D printing by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) builds fully dense metal parts layer by layer directly from a 3D file, with no mold and no tooling cost. It is the practical route for geometries that cutting and molding cannot reach – conformal cooling channels, lattice and micro-channel internals, consolidated assemblies – and for low volumes where a mold would never pay for itself.

Specification (Core Advantages)

  • Process: Selective Laser Melting (SLM) on multi-laser production systems
  • Build envelope up to 350 x 400 x 400 mm, plus a small-format cell (Ø100 x 100 mm) for micro and precision parts
  • Relative density above 99.9%
  • Mating and critical surfaces CNC-finished to ±0.05 mm
  • Tool and special steels: 18Ni300 / 1.2709 maraging, M789, H13, SUS 420J2, 17-4PH, 4130, and high-thermal-conductivity mold steels
  • Other materials: stainless 316L, aluminium AlSi10Mg and 6061, aerospace-grade Ti-6Al-4V, Inconel 718, pure copper, pure tungsten
  • No tooling required: from 3D file to finished metal part in days, not weeks
  • Economical from a single piece up to a few hundred: prototypes, spares, customised tooling
  • Post-processing available: heat treatment and CNC finishing of critical features

Product Content

SLM uses a high-power fibre laser to selectively melt fine metal powder, one thin layer at a time, inside an inert gas chamber. Because the part is grown rather than cut away, geometry is close to free: cooling channels can follow the contour of a mold cavity, a cold plate can carry a lattice or micro-channel core, and a bracket can be reduced to only the material its load path actually needs.

Conformal cooling channels produced by metal 3D printing (SLM)
Conformal cooling channels – internal routing that follows the part contour, impossible to drill conventionally.

Typical Applications

  • Mold and die: inserts with conformal cooling, venting, or both, to shorten cycle time and reduce warpage
  • Precision engineering: fixtures, jigs and tooling components
  • Thermal management: pure-copper cold plates with lattice or micro-channel internals
  • Aerospace and defence: lightweight brackets and structural components
  • Semiconductor equipment components
  • Automotive, motorcycle and bicycle performance parts
  • Medical and veterinary: bone plates, fixation components and surgical planning models
  • Consumer electronics and 3C: functional prototypes and small complex parts
Lattice and lightweight structures produced by metal 3D printing (SLM)
Lattice structures for lightweighting, energy absorption and increased heat transfer area.
Copper cold plate and heat-exchange parts produced by metal 3D printing (SLM)
Pure-copper cold plates with printed internal fin structures for high heat-flux electronics.

How to Enquire

Send a STEP or IGES file together with material, quantity, tolerance and surface finish requirements. ACCuratech Dynamics will advise whether SLM, CNC machining or Metal Injection Molding is the most economical route for your part, and quote accordingly.
